Vancouver Island: a climate like no other.

Vancouver Island’s temperate rainforest climate is legendary. Tourists flock here by the tens of thousands on cruise ships, ferries, and airplanes. A huge part of this is of course our natural microbiome, and the climate here is one of a kind without question.

We’re admittedly a tad biased, but trees and natural flora have a lot to do with this. Even in heavily-populated urban areas, there are gorgeous parks to photograph everywhere. Vancouver Island has become an important advocate for naturalism, even if partly by accident.

Tourism and photographs don’t exactly do much for your yard per se, but that’s not to say trees don’t have a ton of value. If you’ve done much exploring through Mt. Doug Park or Cathedral Grove here on the island, you’ll get our drift.

This is because you’ll have experienced first-hand what healthy trees can be and do. The moisture, the air, and the colours… don’t get us started on how much we love trees here at Elevated!

A spectacular source of nourishment

You might be surprised by the sorts of fruit plants you can find in Victoria. Blackberries, strawberries, peaches, kiwis, and apples all can thrive with the right care. The cycle of life through the seasons is ever-changing for your property’s plants.

That said, fruit isn’t the only sort of nourishment that trees can provide. Deciduous trees and plants with blossoms and flowers create excellent mulch and compost! Plants have to eat too, you know.

What better nutrients or soil is there than organic matter that came out of the same yard? That and it won’t need to smell like manure either.

Privacy for you and your family

There’s a lot of protection that beautiful landscaping can offer. Your local home center would rather sell you canopies and fences, but plants have you covered. It might take a few years if they’re younger plants. Provided they’re safe to grow taller, your yard will be the better for it with tall and healthy trees.

Trees of any decent height in the local area already come with canopies. These not only offer beauty, but also utility even if your kids aren’t into tree-houses or swings. If your home still has taller or older trees, there’s a good chance your upper floor’s windows have protection and shade already.

Hedges and shrubs always offer a greener and cleaner approach to privacy. Though their maintenance might seem like a lot of work, they’re doing more for your property than you may realize. If you’re not sure, you can always ask your local wildlife.

Climate control – putting nature to work

Your trees and shrubs really are amazing. Soil enrichment is a neat one, and whatever privacy they bring is special too. As the seasons change, your taller stronger trees have can even end up serving as insulation from the elements and temperature.

Nature can play a powerful role in moderating your home’s temperature from wind and sunshine alike. This can translate to a more manageable heating and cooling bill. This is doubly so in the summertime or during stormy evenings across Vancouver Island.

Leaving the care of your yard’s trees and plants to local experts can thus have pleasantly surprising returns on investment. Give us a call if you’d like to learn more about what we can do for your trees!
